This week at Tesoro Preschool, the journey was the point.
The Traveling the World Transportation theme gave our tesoritos a week-long exploration of how people and things move from one place to another, by plane, train, boat, bus, bicycle, and beyond.
Transportation is one of those themes that children connect to immediately because it is part of their everyday lives. They ride in cars, they wave at buses, they point at planes. This week gave them the language and the knowledge to go deeper into something they already love.
Our teaching team built the week around different modes of transportation and the different parts of the world they connect. Children explored maps, talked about where different vehicles travel, built their own vehicles in dramatic play, and created transportation-inspired art projects that showed how much they absorbed.
Spanish vocabulary moved right along with the theme: transporte, avión, tren, barco, bicicleta, autobús, viaje. Children practiced these words while loading imaginary cargo, piloting pretend planes, and navigating routes across their classroom maps.
Week seven reminded the tesoritos that the world is connected, and getting from one place to another is its own kind of adventure.
