This week at Tesoro Preschool, the classrooms became laboratories.
The Little Engineers theme gave the tesoritos a full week of building, designing, testing, and problem-solving, the core habits of mind that engineering is built on.
STEAM learning is woven into the Tesoro curriculum year-round, but Little Engineers week turns up the dial. Children were given challenges to solve with materials, structures to design and build, and problems to think through together. The emphasis was on the process: what happens when something falls down, how do you make it stronger, what would you try differently next time.
Our teaching team guided children through building challenges using blocks, recycled materials, and construction tools scaled for small hands. Dramatic play had the tesoritos working as architects, engineers, and construction crews, building cities, bridges, and towers with real intention.
Spanish vocabulary was built right into the engineering process: construir, diseñar, probar, puente, estructura, solución, ingeniero. Children used these words while they worked, which is precisely when vocabulary sticks best.
Week eight was a reminder that some of the most important learning happens when something does not go as planned. The tesoritos handled every tumbling tower with grace, curiosity, and the immediate instinct to try again.
