Playing in Spanish: Tesoro’s June Dramatic Play Stations Are Open for Business

At Tesoro Preschool, the dramatic play area is where language becomes real.

Every month, our teaching team transforms each classroom into a different real-world setting, one that children can step into, explore, and use to practice the Spanish they are building every single day. This month, all four classrooms are open for business in the most literal sense.

Salón Plata has become a Correo, a post office where children sort mail, write letters, stamp packages, and practice the vocabulary of sending and receiving.

Salón Oro is a Construcción site, a construction zone where hard hats go on, blueprints get studied, and children build with intention and imagination.

Salón Joya has transformed into a Nivería, an ice cream shop where children take orders, scoop flavors, and practice the give-and-take of a real customer conversation, all in Spanish.

Salón Diamante is a Peluquería, a hair salon where children style, snip (pretend scissors only), and chat with their clients the way stylists do.

These setups are doing serious educational work.

When a child walks up to the Neveri?a counter and says “Quiero una bola de chocolate, por favor,” they are not reciting a vocabulary list. They are using language to get something they want, in a context that feels completely natural. That is exactly how language acquisition works best: embedded in play, driven by genuine desire to communicate.

Each dramatic play rotation is designed around the Tesoro Way: real-world Spanish vocabulary, whole-child development, and learning that feels joyful because it is. Children move through these stations with confidence because the environment invites them to try, to speak, to imagine, and to belong.

Over the next four Fridays, we will be sharing a closer look at each station so families can see exactly what their children are exploring and how to keep the conversation going at home.
